Service to our School

This week's  value has been "Service". Room3 has been enthusiastic in helping make our school a tidy and well-presented environment. They have raked leaves, weeded the vege garden and swept paths.

Each year groups of students are identified for extension programmes. One was on Podcasting and three Yr 6 students travelled down to Greytown School for 2 days where they experimented with green screens. The picture below shows an example of their efforts.

Students from Rooms 5 & 7 have been lucky to have Marlon Tortoza, a parent, come in each Tuesday to give tuition in Chess. Later in the Term some of these students will be competing in tournaments around the Wairarapa.

As part of the Literacy Programme this group were reading about hexagons. Using a compass they constructed the hexagons and noted the properties that make this shape the best to tesselate.

Students in Room 7 were asked to bring along an object of interest for our Science Table. A wide assortment of objects arrived. Students are now completing a research study on the object they brought along.

Our Term One unit in 2011 has been "Ready Set Go". This has ensured that students now know how to manage their own time, resources, learning and behaviour. Students have prepared task sheets covering all aspects of the class, school, community and environment.

Values Groups

South End Tamariki value Respect, Caring, Service, Grace, Courtesy and Pride. Once a week, leaders from Rooms 5 & 7 take small groups for activities related to the focus value. In our weekly assembly, we share the work we have done.
